We believe that one of the best ways to truly learn about a culture is to see how the locals eat and live day to day. This culinary walking tour is a 2 for 1 – you will get to enjoy the best traditional local food and wine while you also learn about the fascinating history of Barcelona, dating back 2000 years.
You are going to be enjoying quite a lot of tastings on this food lovers walking tour, but please remember to dress accordingly! Most importantly of all, wear comfortable walking shoes (some streets, especially in the old district, are cobblestone). Be sure to check the weather as well for your other attire.
Our entertaining guides from Eye on Food Tours will bring the city of Barcelona to life on your 3.5-hour culinary journey. On this walking tour, we will mix history with the traditions of the neighborhoods that we will be exploring with great food and, of course, some local sparkling wine, “Cava” (traditional Catalan wine), red and white wines, and cold “Canyes”(beers).
You will also get to experience delicious tapas accompanied with an assortment of locally made cheeses, cured meats, the famous “Bomba,” and so much more! On this tour, you are going to create wonderful memories and building lasting friendships while experiencing the city’s tastes and smells, all of which will linger long after your trip to Barcelona is over.
You will be meeting your English-speaking guide outside the “Barceloneta” metro station (please arrive 15 min early for check-in). Just around the corner is our first stop on your tasting adventure: an authentic, family-owned Catalan bar. Here is where you will be introduced to two truly traditional dishes and, to make sure that you start things off on the right foot, you will have some of the best cava you will ever experience!
After this first stop, you will be navigated through the twisting and winding lanes of 13th-century medieval Barcelona. As we work our way around this remarkable city, your guide will draw your attention to some points of interest and hidden locales.
We will be walking down the narrow streets of the exceptional Born neighborhood filled with charming boutiques, quaint shops, trendy bars and where we will visit a 14th-century Catalan Gothic style church. This is a great chance to take some amazing pictures as your guide gives you details on how the church was built and what role this church played in Barcelona’s rich history.
To continue your foodie adventure, we will stop at a 14th-century bodega (wine cellar). This wonderful bodega is always filled with locals living life to the fullest, so let us squeeze you in to sample some mouth-watering traditional tapas. And of course, you can’t stop at a bodega without trying some fantastic local wine to wash it all down!
Before we make our third stop, it is time to head over to yet another historic part of the Gothic quarter. This is the oldest part of the city, and it boasts a labyrinth of winding narrow streets, including some of the more interesting and beautiful plazas. Your expert guide will bring to life the stories of these plazas, including all their secrets and legends.
What better way to continue a foodie tour than by enjoying more tapas and drinks? In our next family-run bodega, you will have two to three more tapas accompanied by the house sweet “Vermut” (the preferred apéritif for the locals). At this point, all of our guests will have become good friends, so it is time to continue the fun! Stay with us as we are off to our fourth stop.
On this final portion of our Sips, Sites & Bites Tour, we will be walking down the heart of the gothic quarter and where the medieval Grand Royal palace is located. We will be transporting you back in time with some of the most remarkable stories of when the palace used to be the residence of king Ferdinand and queen Isabella.
This is a great chance to exchange numbers with your new friends that you have made on this adventure!Your expert guide will give you a list of all the tapas and wine that you enjoyed on this walking tour so you can go back and experience them again. Additionally, if you need any recommendations as to where to continue your fun for the night or even help planning your next few days, the staff here at Eye On Food Tours will be more than happy to share our favorite places to visit.
